New Conjuring Trick by US-American University of Beirut’s Illusionists. Tons of Aldehydes Found in Narghile (Hookah, Shisha) Smoke… You’re Dead !

A new caricature of narghile smoking toxicology by the US-American University of Beirut has been published :

Funding: US and Canadian sources (RITC, nothing to do with Ritz Hotels ! Stands for "la recherche pour la lutte mondiale contre le tabac". Sounds a bit dodgy, no ?....)[added Oct 29] Humm...

Reading the abstract will let you know that : “Using a standardized smoking machine protocol consisting of 171 puffs of 2.6s puff duration and a 17s inter puff interval, the average yields of formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acrolein, propionaldehyde and methacrolein were 630, 2520, 892, 403, and 106 µg/smoking session, respectively.”

Results “show that a single narghile smoking session yields in the mainstream smoke the equivalent of 17 cigarettes in formaldehyde, and 5 cigarettes in acetaldehyde, when compared to cigarettes with added sugar”

Conclusion: "[…] Indeed, a single narghile waterpipe session yields 1/20th the lethal dose of formaldehyde"

Excellent. Let’s comment a bit now. First off, we note how these people now openly declare that their machine is “standardised” after they have pretended that it were "realistic" (based on a so-called “smoking topography”….). Numerous statements (like "one narghile smoking session is found to release greater amounts of..." or "a single narghile session yields...") imply that their smoking machine is a good model of human hookah smoking. It is NOT. Indeed (let’s also use this nice word “indeed”), tell us, you hookah addicts, do you smoke like this, like robots, every 17 seconds, relentlessly and for a full hour and with your coal in the same position ?

Paradoxically, cigarettes, known to be consumed in a much shorter time, are machine smoked (see FTC below) with a 60 second interval between each puff ! There are many other frauds but this one is used for a didactical purpose here.

This preposterous smoking machine was used in previous experiments for the assessment of other toxic substances: nicotine, heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (*), (tar was never differentiated, and for obvious reasons …) and now for aldehydes. You’re dead !

(*) Same team’ previous study concluded that “that a single narghile smoking session delivers approximately 50 times the quantities of carcinogenic 4- and 5-membered ring PAHs as a single 1R4F cigarette smoked using the FTC protocol”.

For the Observatory on Hookah or Health, this is an excellent opportunity to announce that similarly to the critique of the erroneous World Health Organisation report and the historic study on Hookah Smoking and Cancer, the devastating critique of this devilish machine has been published and is now online and for free after its author got the green light from the Editor (here right column).

Folks, if you must read only one study from the censored and clandestine Opposition, be it that one ! You will realise how your mind clears up as the smokescreen of pseudo-scientific pollution fades away….

We said in the title that it is sort of sleight of hand because the authors are playing with the chemical reactions or, better said, spark off reactions that wouldn’t occur in natural conditions. Our consultant will hopefully prepare a communique on these issues.

PROHIBITION AGENDA
The publication of this kind of stuff is clearly in tune with the world Prohibition Agenda. Formaldehyde is believed to be a carcinogen and acetaldehyde is said to enhance the effect of nicotine in “nicotine addiction”. You’re dead ! In other words, it is once again a desperate intent to invent “passive smoking” since it would mean that passive smokers may be exposed, even if no side-stream smoke stems from a narghile. Even if up to 90% of the remaining toxic substances are inhaled directly by the smoker, the exhaled 10% would be enough to kill a pregnant woman passing by a hookah lounge and get her baby addicted on nicotine…

PSEUDO-SCIENCE RECYCLING AND LAUNDERING
This publication recycles a famous sentence found in the the critique of the erroneous World Health Organisation report (in which it was said that parents smoke with their children in the Arab world…). In this new paper, the sentence has changed to: “[this smoking method,] contrary to cigarettes, is socially acceptable in the Eastern Mediterranean region, where it is common for parents to allow their sons and daughters to smoke narghile (Maziak et al., 2004a)”.

We let you relish the level of these "scientific" observations and how they are laundered and recycled in international “expert” reports…. No need to further comment on many miserable references (from Kandela to Tamim and Chaaya) cited in this paper…

Important note: Alan SHIHADEH, co-author of this new paper, was also the main co-author of the erroneous WHO report . He was illegally supported in this venture by Ghazi ZAATARI, from the same US-American University of Beirut as him (read the latter’s declarations in ““WaterPipe””™Gate Files)….

Why worry when the same individual is now Chairman of WHO TobReg , the tobacco ruler of the world ?
