Serious Errors in World Health Organization New Report on “Scientific Basis of Tobacco Product Regulation”
Communiqué (Dec 24, 2007) HERE
Believe it or not, ain’t a religious issue here but a serious question of ethics in science and public health. In an interview over the phone today, K.C. said he has found multiple and serious errors in a new 112 page WHO (World Health Organization) report published with the following title: “The Scientific Basis of Tobacco Product Regulation”.
This report was issued by TobReg, the WHO Study Group for Tobacco product REGulation, also behind the Erroneous WHO 1st Expert Report on "Waterpipe"™ , further laundered and recycled by the joint US-Syrian Center for Tobacco Studies in Erroneous and Unethical Cochrane Review
It is said (page 105 of that report) that the main contributors were:
“Dr Gregory N. Connolly, Professor of Public Health Practice, and Dr Carrie M. Carpenter, Research Associate, Tobacco Control Research and Training Program, both of the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, MA, USA. In early 2004, Dr Connolly was commissioned by WHO’s Tobacco Free Initiative to write a background paper on flavoured tobacco products.”
More information will be given on this site as soon as it is made available.
Quoteworthy (in the meantime): “Smokeless tobacco (i.e. chewing tobacco, snuff and snus) is common and has become a leading cause of death in many developing countries” (pp. 35-36)
1) This is a an institution lie because SNUS is completely different from other low-quality products. SNUS has proved to be an efficient method of curbing down lung cancer on the scale of a whole European country: Sweden (Statistics available).
2) This is institutional hypocrisy because the sales of SNUS are forbidden in the other countries of the European Union against the conclusion of major experts in this field.
By the way, the cover of the report also comes with a strange header: “ This report contains the collective views of an international group of experts and does not necessarily represent the decisions or the stated policy of the World Health Organization”
It also also warns, as if WHO top experts weren't so sure of themselves...:
“(…) All reasonable precautions have been taken by the World Health Organization to verify the information contained in this publication. However, the published material is being distributed without warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied. The responsibility for the interpretation and use of the material lies with the reader. In no event shall the World Health Organization be liable for damages arising from its use.” (page ii of the report)
But it's tooooo late ! With 3 erroneous WHO reports on tobacco smoking, the damage is already done. My God ! How can we call this "science" ?
