Vocabulary : Take Care !
« NARGILEO » is the right word in Esperanto, the international and so easy to learn language for brotherly communication. See, for instance : « La nargileo, pac-pipo de la Meza Oriento : Antropologia Interpreto pri gxia Interparolada, Tempa kaj Luda Aspektoj ». Prelego prezentita okaze de la Oficiala Antaux-Kongreso (85-a) de la Universala Esperanto Asocio en Amano (Jordanio) en la Regxa Kultur-Centro, la 22-24 de julio 2000.
[Engl.] Narghile, Peace Pipe of the Middle East: an Anthropological Interpretation of its Conversational, Temporal and Ludic Aspects.

Aaargh…
« NARGHILE » is the English spelling, also acceptable in French and Italian (if the last « e » is topped with an accent).
« NARGUILE » with a « u » is the French (with an accent on the last « e ») and Spanish spelling.
« NARGILE » with no « h » is the Turkish spelling. So don’t use it unless when you write in Turkish or address the nice people speaking in this language !
So, we suggest to keep « NARGHILE » for international communication. Everybody is free to use the numerous local varieties. Note that we didn’t mention the Asian and Arabic dialects, particularly rich in this field…
Chichi chic…
« CHICHA » can be used in French but it creates a great deal of confusion in a language like Spanish because it also refers to a South American drink…
« SHISHA », though English, is neutral and useful for international exchange. For instance, you can say : « a shisha bar » or « a shisha lounge ». Forget about “sheesha”.
Notwithstanding, “SHISHA” cannot describe the tobamel (see below) itself. This is a widely spread error, particularly in the United States of America.
Tobamel and tabamel
« TOBAMEL » is internationally used in the English-speaking world.
“tob” stands for tobacco and “mel” for honey (Latin). It perfectly fits what many hookah-narghile smokers use, i.e the tobacco – or tobacco-free nicotine-free - mixture.
Speakers of Romance (Latin) languages like Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Rumanian and others, use « TABAMEL ».
Peace upon you !
